Retirement in Arkansas!

Ahhh, four seasons, fresh air, clean water, and the natural beauty of Arkansas, no wonder we are one of the top 100 places to retire!
Mountain Home, Arkansas is located in the north central section of Arkansas and is nestled among two lakes and three rivers,  Lake Norfork, Lake Bull Shoals, Buffalo National River, White River and the Norfork River.

We were named one of the best fishing towns in America by Field & Stream Magazine. http://www.fieldandstream.com/photos/gallery/kentucky/2008/01/best-fishing-towns-america?photo=1

Outdoor Life magazine rated Mountain Home Arkansas #1 fishing town in America! http://www.outdoorlife.com/photos/gallery/photos/2008/03/paradise-found?photo=2#41773261

There are two hydroelectric dams operated by the Corps of Engineers. Norfork Dam is located on the North Fork River and Bull Shoals Dam is located on the White River at the river mile 418.6 in Baxter and Marion counties, seven miles north of Cotter and 10 miles west of Mountain Home.

LOW TAXES- One of the reasons that people relocate and retire in Arkansas. Our current property tax structure is: Property is assessed at 20 percent of its market value. That means that a house with a market value of $50,000 has an assessed value of $10,000. Then, to determine the taxes, multiply the assessed value by the millage rate on the property (AV x MR = Taxes).   For Example, if the millage rate where the house mentioned above is located is 5 mills, multiply $10,000 by 5 mills to figure the tax ($10,000 x .005 = $50). Millage rates are approved by voters.
